Young Plaintiffs win the right to pursue legal action to protect the Climate
16 November 2016
On November 10, 2016, a USA federal court ruled in favor of 21 young plaintiffs in a groundbreaking climate lawsuit. Rejecting the arguments of the fossil fuel industry and the federal government, judge Ann Aiken determined that the young plaintiffs’ constitutional and public trust claims could proceed Slot Gacor Resmi. Now, the 21 plaintiffs, aged 9-20, are preparing for trial in what may be a turning point in United States constitutional history.
“With today’s decision, the momentum is distinctly in our favor. And so is the law,” observed Julia Olson, counsel for the plaintiffs. Julia Olsen is executive director of Our Children’s Trust, an NGO which works through the US court system to secure the protection of Earth’s atmosphere and natural systems for present and future generations.

I’m delighted to see Xiuhtezcatl Martinez still out there on the front line fighting against climate change. He’s been an indefatiguable climate activist since age 6! Those of you who’ve read my book Let’s Save Our Planet will recall that he has an important place there (pages 80-83). – Julie Wornan
