Wouldn’t it be a huge benefit to the Earth’s atmosphere if countries that burned the most coal would switch to clean energy? And, suppose they could make use of much of the capital that they have invested in building coal fired power plants in the process?

Converting some coal-burning steam plants to nuclear power plants by replacing the furnaces and boilers with gas cooled reactors might soon become a routine power plant improvement in China. China’s High Temperature Reactor Power Module (HTR-PM) project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of this cost-effective solution to slash air pollution as well as CO2 emissions.
